Mitsubishi Televsion horizontal lines when cold

I have a 60 inch Mitsubishi rear projection TV that has horizontal lines while warming up.  It takes about 15 minutes for the lines to go away and then the picture is great.  Model VS-60705 built in 2000.

I live in a rural area where there are no television repairmen.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem &/or know where to get a schematic of the boards?

 thanks,

most likly its going to turn

most likly its going to turn out to be a bad capacitor in the PIP board if you have that funtion or maybe a bad capacitor in the sweep or main power supply.. To check this you will need a service manual.  you can download one for about 25 bucks from http://www.servicemanuals.net I did look and found no freebees out there unless somone wants to share with you.  You also are going to need a ESR meter to properly check for bad capacitors, as you can check them in curcuit most of the time with a meter such as this.  if you have a PIP module in this set and do not use it simply jump it out.  see attached

Good Luck, and please let us know how you made out.

Thaks for your quick reply.

Thaks for your quick reply.  I just had a chance to open up the back and take a look.  I removed the entire circiuit board and looked at all the capacitors and welds.  I didn't see any black or oily residue or bad solder joints.  I did look for the points you mentioned to jump across but unfortunately, my board is a 930B857, different than the board reference above.  Of interest, since it has to warm up before the lines go away, I tried artificially heating the components by using a hair dryer.  I found an area that if I heat it up for a few seconds, it starts up just fine.  This area contained two large capacitors (C957 & C953), just to the right of the power supply plugs into the board as you look at it from the back.

I don't have the service manual or an ESR meter.  The long distance TV repair man said it would be $200 just to show up.  Geeesh.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Larry,

Larry,

I realize it has been a couple of years since this guy Jim had the problem with horizontal lines until warmup. I too tried to do as you suggested by looking into the PIP board and jumper the capacitor but I could not find that board.

I did what Jim did and applied heat and got the same thing as he did by heating up those two capacitors. It appears it is C957 that is affected by the heat and cold. I used some freeze spray and got to duplicate problem everytime.

Do you think the problem can be there? I'd appreciate any help you can give.
