Home stereo problam [ turns on but no audio ]

one day i decided to move
my home stereo from the bedroom to the living room. the radio worked just fine
before. but when i turned it on in the living and played it a lil while i
smelled somethen burning so i turned it off, and when i turned it back on it
worked but had no audio. already checked speakers connections , etc. also this
is EXACTLY the same problam my g/f already had hers just stopped playin audio
one day also. its appears to work just fine still plays cd's and stuff but just
no sound. what gives????

A burning smell is never a

A burning smell is never a good sign. When you reconnected the speakers, did you make sure the positive and negative leads weren't touching eachother, or touching something else meta other than the terminal posts?

The best you can do is unplug it for a while, recheck all connections, and give it a final test. If it doesn't work, you must have fried something. At least that would explain the burning smell. Pop the lid off and inspect the internals for any obvious signs of charring, inspect fuses, etc.
