Sony 35" KV35S42 TV picture flicks off and on whenever brightness, color and sharpness settings are increased or when picture is mostly white or green or mode is changed to VIVID . The TV is only 6 years old and has an excellent picture but can only watch the news without this happening - I was told it is a bad tube but I can't believe there isn't a voltage setting or somewthing that can fix the problem and SONY tells me they have never encountered this sort of problem with this model (which I find hard to believe). Can anyone help me?
This is a very common problem with sony sets. It is because of the picture tube. There are a couple of ways to get around this and use the set for a lttle bit . You can see what a Technician will charge you to come into the house and rejuvenate the CRT, as this will, if it takes, may let you watch the TV a bit more. But there is never a warranty when this is done as it could burn out the tube anyway. If it does not burn the tube, and the set looks good, I have seen some sets last a year or more, but I have also seen some sets last two weeks, so its a crapshoot. Sorry i could not give you better news. Good Luck and let us know if you had this done.
Thanks much for the advice I will let you know. I forgot to mention when the picture starts to flick a green hue comes over the screen and then it goes off and back on with a good picture which if still the same scene starts the process again, fade to a green hue,off and on again quickly. Does that info possibly suggest anything else - I assume not. Thanks.
Possibly a problem with the RGB auto drive or ABL circuit, but 99% of the time it is the CRT.
Larry, I also have a trinitron model kv35s42 made in sept 2001. The pic constantly blinks on + off. When turning the set on the sound is immediatly there, the screen is black. The power light flashes about 16 times then the pic will come on. Then it (the picture) begins flashing. From the artile above Im assuming its the CRT. What exactly is the CRT? I dont want the repairman to BS me about my problem.I`d like to have a little knowledge about what the possible cause is so I can understand what he`s talking about. thank, Jannutt
A CRT is the picture tube. It could still be a CRT drive problem like a bad connection on the CRT board or in the sweep power supply.
