Matt, not Mark.

Matt, not Mark.

The rechargeable lithium ion battery in the iPod will discharge even when the player is off or idle, but it should take several days to a week for to deplete the battery depending on the model of the player.

All rechargeable batteries

All rechargeable batteries lose their charge over time, one way or the other. Normally this should take longer then a few days, and more like weeks. In the iPods case, there may be components that continually drain the batter, even when "off". For example, it will still run the clock, etc. This, combined with the batteries natural discharge, will deplete the battery over several days to a week. If yours is fully draining within one to two days when in standby, you may want to have you iPod looked at. If it's more like 4 or 5, I'd say you're okay.
