My t.v. was on when the elec. co. updated the elec. meter. I did not know that they were doing this at the time or I would have turned my t.v. off. The power went off when they took the old meter out, then the power came on when they put the new meter in. The power went off when they took the old meter out. The power came back on when they put the new meter in. The power was only off for a couple of minutes. When the power came back on, the tv made a loud popping sound but wouldn't work. The elec. co. employee's came in and unplugged the tv., waited a minute and replugged it, pushed power button on tv and nothing happened. They checked the breaker box and it was fine. This is my mom's tv. She has asked me to try to find out what happened to it. My dad passed away within days of this happening. I have contacted the elec. co several times and they say that they are not responsible and that we should hire a repairman to diagnose the tv. With my dad's recent death, finances are tight. Can anyone give me simple troubleshooting advice to determine what is wrong with the tv? I feel sure that it stems from a power surge but I don't know what to do about it. The outlet that the tv was plugged into works. I have since plugged something else into it and it is fine, but the tv will not work. I push the power button and it is as if it is not plugged in. It makes no noise, has no picture, and the power button does not light up. It is An RCA big screen tv, manufactured in 1995, Model#P52731WK, Chassis#PTK169PGB.
This tv has always worked perfectly. It was working fine before this event happened. Can someone tell me what is wrong and give me info. such as troubleshooting, simple fix, if not, then give me the knowledge to contact the elec. co. to prove to them that they are at fault so that they will repair or replace the tv? Is there a reset switch and would that even help in this situation? Thank you very much for any comments. Tiggerpi
If you can give me the chassis number, It;s on the back and is either PTK169 or PTK195. I will be able to help you then. Also your general location would be helpful
This chassis has a power supply riddled with common problems. There are 4 capacitors, 1 transistor, 1 integrated circuit, and 1 diode that routinely fail. As far as the "Popping" noise, it sounds like the high voltage divider has failed. Another common problem with this chassis. None of these items can be repaired by a layman. This repair, along with other "upgrades" to the chassis must be made to assure reliablity would run $375.00 To $600.00 depending where you live. Insist the high voltage divider be a genuine RCA part. There are cheap counterfiet parts out there and have poor performance.
The Flyback transformer also goes bad in this set.
chassis # PTK169PGB, we powerd off last week to replace with a new LG. Plugged it in today to sell to a wonderful young couple and nothing happen. Is their a quick common fix here. Was going to sell for $250 cash....now what is it worth? It worked awesome utnil now. Thoughts anyone?
