I have a JVC DR-MH30S DVD Player/recorder. It has recently developed a fault. It started when a DVD-R I was recording from the HHD failed. Due to the failure, the unit switched itself off. When I switched it back on, it produced a hissing sound through both the TV speakers and my Home Cinema speakers. I switched off all surrounding equipment and reduced the interconnections to just the scart lead from the player to the TV to ensure that there was no interference. I discovered that if I opened the disc tray the hissing reduced dramatically and then returned when the tray was closed. I have found that the only way to remove the hissing is to load a pre recorded DVD, change the unit to DVD and let the DVD start. I can then remove the DVD and the hissing is gone until the next time it is switched off and on again. When recording from the HHD to a DVD I have notice the following:
1. When I try to copy multiple scenes using the “mark” facility, the disc fails and the hissing returns
2. When I copy scenes one at a time the recordings are successful
3. When I used a DVD-RW x4 the recording was successful
The discs I am now using are x16 and information that came with the DVD-R states that although the discs should be alright, some Manufacturers will provide software downloads that will enable x16DVD-R’s to be used. Do JVC provide this?

Could anyone please advise me on what is causing the hissing sound and what can be done to rectify it.
Many thanks
