Have a Sony RDR-GX7 DVD recorder. Have cleaned the recorder with a DVD cleaner but still getting "disk dirty" error. Nothing will record. Has been working great for over 3 years' using the same brand DVD-R discs. It started by taking well over 1 minute to start recording, after a week or so of that we started getting the "disk dirty" error and no recording at all.
It does not seem practical to take it in for repair since we can replace with a new one for 200.00 more or less and the cost to repair will most likley be at least 150.00.

Have you tryed to clean the unit maualy yet.. Maybe this will help as it can be applied to a recorder as well. http://www.techlore.com/article/14550/ If this doesnt help, your alighnment is out or the laser assy. is defective. Good Luck
