Samsung 58" (I think) Rear Projection

I paid $150 for this TV and it looks OK minus the fact  I see a red overlap on the left and right sides of the screen.  It looks OK in the middle.  I've tried to adjust it using the tools in the menu (to no avail).  I'd like to repair myself if possible.  Could some one make a suggestion?  If it's too hard to repair myself, could someone suggest the possible problems so I won't get took by the repairman?

If your a tech and know how

If your a tech and know how to solder this repair could be an easy one.  There are two stand up IC's on a metal heat sheild, inside the set, that will be labeled STK-###-###The # are numbers, as they use all differant types in differant TVs. This problem happens to almost, if not every one of them at least once in the TVs life time.  Sometimes when these ICs blow out, they will take out the fuseable resistors with them . They are little resistor looking things that limit current and prevent the power supply from shorting out when the IC's do. Remember a TV set is no place to be an experimenter. AS I SAID , If your not a tech please call a pro to assist you with this repair.  This repair should cost in the range of 250 to 350 depending on who you call and the part of the country you live in. Let us know how you made out and Good Luck

Thanks Larry.....I'm not a tech, but I have soldered (with success) electronics in the past-back in the day I did "DSS Testing).  However, I believe I'll seek professional help.  I'm wondering if I can cut the cost by ordering the part(s) myself.  You feel sure, based on my description, that it's the stand up IC's?

Sure is the problem. Just

Sure is the problem. Just make sure they are the STK IC's.
