My panasonic CT35G25B TV was knocked out by a lightning storm. Interesting in that the TV was plugged into the cable box and the in feed from the Cable also goes through the tuner box. TV will not turn on. Totally dead. Cable box is fine. Of course it is the only electronic device in the house without a surge protector.
Checked the line fuse and it did not blow, so obviously the board is fried. Board does not look much harder to install than a computer mother board. Can I purchase the board alone and install it?
Any recommendations on who carries the main board for Panasonic?
They normally dont have main PC boards available for Panasonic, But there is another Option. Go to hrrp://.www.ptscorp.com And get therv Tele number and call them up with the model # of your set, And see what they would charge you to overhaul thge main Pc board. If that dosent work, see if any other TV repair place will service your TV board assy. Good Luck
Thanks Larry
I live in an area that does not have any TV service facilities. I will check to see if I can send it in. I noted that there are shops that do Zenith and RCA. Intersting that none for Panasonic.
One other question. I know they have surge preventers for power, but do they also make them for the cable? Is it likely that the surge came through the cable? It did not blow the in-line power fuse. But then, It did not damage the cable box that was ahead of the TV either.
They make surge protectors for everything. Ask the cable company what they recomend for your cable box and maske sure you tell them its for the coax line in.. Simply buy a good surge protector that comes in a strip form and some manufacturers even have a warranty that says if anything gets blow out from a surge, will be 100 warranty. How can you beat that??
Thanks again Larry. I did check out PTScorp and it appears they have the board I need. It looks like it is a lot less than purchasing another TV. This one is just over a year old.
A coworker of mine got a new computer from one of the surge protector companies. Lightning not only fried the computer but melted the protector. They coverd it with minimal issues.
I have them on the computers, Just did not have one on the cable box
Good luck to you my friend. BUt dont tell PTS what you think happened to the board .. Well Im not saying to lie as I would not,, But dont volinteer any info. Just tell them Its a dead module.. Good luck and let us know how you made out with the repair. thanks again..
