jvc camcorder ,thought they were good?

hi, used to have a jvc vhsc camcorder it was fine a little large, compared to those now available today but picture clarity was fine.anyway 18 months ago bought a jvc grd93 dv camcorder .thing is the pic really isnt that sharp .thought it was cos i wasnt using firewire to download to the comp,tried firewire but no difference tried playing straight back on the tv ,just the same .so compared to the old camcorder the picture sharpness isnt as good .is this the way it should be ?i thought it was going to be even clearer.please help somebody,im dispairing!!!

Your camcorder is capable of recording video in two modes, SP and LP. LP gives you more record time, but at the sacrifice of image quality. If you're unhappy with the video quality, make sure you're recording in SP mode.

You'll find an option to change the video recording mode in the "camera" section of the camcorder's menu. Also remember that using zoom beyond 10x engages the camcorder's digital zoom function. This digitally enlarges the image, but often makes the image look terrible. To prevent this, you can set the max zoom level to 10x in the same area of the menu.
