Help my husband's no help

I just purchased a new LCD flat screen HDTV and I need some help hooking up the home theater and DVD player, with the cable box. I have a Samsung LN-S3241D. I have a Sony FM Stereo FM-AM receiver STR-DE597, a Motorola Comcast Digital Cable box and a CyberHome Mini DVD Player with Progressive Scan (CH-DVD 300). I need help. My husband is no help. Thank you Renea

I'd be happy to help, but I

I'd be happy to help, but I'll need you to answer one question. Is your Motorola Cable Box an HD model? If HD, does it have a DVI or HDMI output?

Sorry about the delay in

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

Here's what you need to do to get it all hooked up:

Considering your TV is actually limited on the number of analog inputs, I would recommend using your AV receiver to route all analog signals at this time. This will provide much flexibility if you add other analog sources in the future.

Cable Box

-Connect the cable box composite (yellow) video and left/right audio output to the receivers video 1 input.

-Connect the cable line from the wall to the cable box.

DVD Player

-Connect the component video output to the component DVD In on the receiver.

-Connect a digital coaxial cable to the Digital audio out on the DVD player, going into the DVD digital coaxial in on the receiver.

Receiver

-Connect the receiver's component video Monitor ouput to the TV's component video input.

-Connect the receiver's yellow composite Monitor out to the TV's Video input labled AV1.

TV

-Connect the TV's audio outputs to the receiver's audio inputs labled Video 2 (this will allow you to play sounds from the TV's front inputs through the receiver should you connect something like a game system or camcorder to the TV's front inputs).

Optional

If you would like to be able to use the TVs internal tuner over the cable box for some reason, you can add a 2-way cable splitter prior to the cable box connection, and connect one end to the cable box, and the other to the TV.

Notes

In the future, you will eventually add a high-definition component to the mix. Make sure the device offers HDMI, considering your TV offers support for two HDMI sources. At that time, you will need to connect a digital optical cable from the TV to the optical input on the receiver.

That should get you up and running for now. Good luck!
