I have in the past recorded music (6hrs) on vhs tapes. Use the recordings during the day at work. I decided to purchase a good vcr (sony slv-n900) for my recordings. When I record audio with the vcr the playback is not of a steady speed. It goes faster and slower - not much but enough to be annoying. This has happened on 2 nearly new identical units. I have an old Memorex vcr that I used to use for recording that did not do this. What can be the problem? I sure would like some help. Thank You, Tlynn
Are you recording any kind of video signal along with the audio?
Does the same problem occur if you use the SP recording mode instead of EP?
Any particular reason you're using VHS as your recording medium over something that's more geared for audio recording and playback? What are you recording?
I am not recording any video with the audio - just audio from either a laptop or fm broadcast. I have tried the sp mode with the same results. I have always had good results using vhs because: the tapes are inexpensive, easy and quick to use, no format differences (tapes are compatible in all vcr's) can fit 6hrs on one tape, sound quality is good - not cd but close enough, also have read about cd and dvd medium degredation (cheap cd's and dvd's lasting about 2.5yrs; good ones lasting upwards 6yrs for all recordables and rewriteables. Magnetics last upwards of 30yrs.) due to the use of cheaper and more inferior materials being used today in the manufacturer of cd's and dvd's. Like I wrote earlier I had an old memorex vcr that I used for recording audio only and it worked fine. I only purchased the sony because I wanted to build a library of different kinds of music and wanted to use better equipment. I am self employed and have the opportunity to listen to music or talk radio during the day and find that playing 6hr tapes is very convienient - just put in a tape and forget it for 6hrs. Is it possible that this sony vcr needs a video signal to stabilize the audio recording? I did not think this necessary especially since the old memorex worked ok. What are the thoughts out there?
