software WOES with SonicStage

Hello all.

Been helping an elderly friend in upgrading his DELL.  Dropped in a Sony burner (which the DELL hated BTW. CLear ALL Upper and Lower Filters if new drive in DELL ins't recognized).  Anyway...alls well now.

The issue is that Nero and WinMedia both see the drive.  SonicStage 'says "no device or media".  I'm heading over today to see if the software still recognizes his Sony BEAN.

Ideally I'd like to set him up where he can burn CD's OR fill the bean with one piece of software.  SS has an easy interface that he's accustomed to, so I am really trying to make this work.

Hi journeyman,

Hi journeyman,

By chance, what OS is this Dell PC running? I don't often hear of problems with CD burners, as they're pretty much plug and play these days.

One thought, Dell normally uses the cable select feature when setting up IDE devices. Have you tried manually setting the master/slave settings for the new drive and any other IDE devices on the channel?
