Its come to my attention that people are pulling their own hair out because of the fact that the PSP is 'un-user friendly' I had the same problems, and this should help you.
1.) Your psp isnt formatted, format it
2.) Your computer 'maybe' hasnt recognized it as a removable disk, make sure there is no bug/program that is preventing it from installing the hardware properly. Check to see if the the connection your using to connect the psp to the computer is working properly.
3.)(USB cord users) Your usb cord is not fast enough. If you bought some crappy 5 dollar usb cord from the bargain pile, you might as well just trash it. You definitaly need a 2.0 hi speed usb cord. The main problem with people and PSP transfers is that they bought a unreliable usb cord. Make sure you buy a hi speed mini-b usb cord.
4.) (Memory card readers) This is obviously a hardware defect, get repairs ASAP.
this should help, if not, refer to exit on my right.
