2" Vertical black line in SONY Plasma TV

A couple of weeks ago my SONY PFm-42V1 plasma TV developed a black vertical line in the center of the screen . It comes at start up, and after a while goes away. It takes longer to go away each time the tv is turend on and I assume in time it will become permanent. ANyone have any ideas??

I got the same problem on a set thats in our shop (tv repair shop).  We still have yet to figure out the cause, but I have a very strong suspicion its a video processing IC somewhere.

I have the exact same problem

I have the exact same problem. The line is now permanent. The first time in the authorized repair shop they  changed a capacitor. It worked  for about 1 1/2 months until the line returned. Next time the shop stated that a Sony info letter states that the plasma screen needs to be replaced at $1,800. I don't have any additional information. Have you been able to resolve this issue? If so what is the outcome?

Same problem here as well.

Same problem here as well.  Line is visible 95+% of the time.  It will intermittently disappear for short periods of time.  Since my display is 2 1/2 years old and out of warranty, Sony was not helpful in the least.  I ended up replacing the unit with a new Panasonic Professional Monitor Display.  I kept the Sony so . . . anyone have any ideas?

There are flat ribbon cables

There are flat ribbon cables that leave the panel and plug into the driver boards mounted along the bottom of the unit.  If reseating the cables doesn't fix the problem you've probably got a bad panel.
