Hi,
I want to get an original song of mine onto my v551 as a ringtone. I do have an mmode email address set up for my phone. Can I just send it as an mp3 attachment? How else can I get this set up?
Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Sending New Ringtone to Motorola v551?
You may be able to e-mail it to yourself, but the easiest way I've found of getting audio files on the 551 is to send them from a Bluetooth equipped computer or phone. See if a friend or family member has a Bluetooth computer, or a phone that uses flash memory and also has Bluetooth. Of course, you could run out to any electronics store and pickup a bluetooth dongle for 30 bucks or less. Then you can send files back and forth all day.
I would like to have step by step instructions to get music from my computer to phone using a Kensington Bluetooth USB Adapter 2.0. I am a computer Illiterate. Basic hunt and peck. Can you please help me???
Thanks, Matt. It seemed to work, but all is not well. We managed to send the file "oldphone.mid" from my LG CU500 to the Motorola V551. The file was definitely received, since it played correctly upon arrival at the V551. We chose "Apply as ringtone" and it had us "please wait" for a few minutes.
When it cleared, though, it had not become the new ringtone. Moreover, when we now try to adjust the ringtones on the phone, we're no longer able to do it! When we try to change "Loud details" for example, we now get sent back to the previous menu level.
Any idea what happened and how we un-do it?
Thanks,
Sandy
You should be able to undo what you did by selecting a different ringtone. If the phone won't let you, pop the battery out for a minute and put back in. This should restore your ability to change stuff around in the phone.
I've never actually tried to send MIDI files to a V551, so I'm not familiar with what quirks might come with it. First, send files over but don't let the phone automatically assign it as the global ringtone. Do it manually after the fact. Also, try sending over a small 30 to 45 second MP3 file, which (from experience) should work fine.
Here is a very easy way to make any ring tone you want. You can upload any song that you "own" to this site and they will send it right back to you. The site is free, but the conversion takes longer. Or you can pay for faster service. I go the free route and I have never had a problem with this site. Just sing up and away you go. Even if you loose your password, they respond and get you right back in... Ya, I forgot my pass word this morning..

Look for the Mobile 17 link on the top right hand side of the web page. Once you sign up the rest is very easy. And the web site retains you phone style info.
