HD DirecTV with Tivo, connection problem

A friend recently switched to HD and since, had problems. He got a new satellite DirecTV receiver (in hopes of better HD reception) and proper connection with JVC TV, combo DVD-VCR unit, and Bose surround CD system, eludes us. Here's what's involved as I remember... DirecTV box has two sat. in lines (coax type) one of which is from a splitter which also sends a coax to Ant., also a phone jack in, USB port, digital audio for which he has no cable, component out (3xRCA) and another 3 RCA (2 aud., 1 vid.)out, and a Svideo (out?). He had been sending audio from combo unit to the Bose Aux. Had been able to play VCR-DVD without changing channels or input. Any connection scheme ideas?
