No DETECTION when I Plug up Scandisk Digital player

I have an IBM Think pad and I downloaded MusicMatch so that I can transfer songs easily from my laptop to my BLUE Scandisk digital audio player. The USB hookup works fine on my desktop, but I cannot get my laptop to recognize the connection to the portable device. I have trouble-shooted and I am going nuts now trying to get it to work. MusicMatch apparently has built in capacity for recognizing the BLUE Scandisk player. The only thing I do know is... the little "DING" sounds when I plug it in, but nothing happens... No drive"F" no portable device is recognized.
What to do?

I've had trouble with USB

I've had trouble with USB connections to MP3 players being temperamental before. If it works on your desktop, perhaps there is an issue with your USB port on your laptop. Do you have another port that you can try on the laptop? Did you install the driver for the MP3 player?

Where can I find the files to

Where can I find the files to install the drivers on my computer? I know the ports work because they work for other devices i have to plug in.

I lost the disk that came with the scan disk products.
