Help! DVD Tray won't open

I have a Toshiba VCR/DVD player. It's just a little over a year old. Has been giving us trouble for a few months with freezing up & not reading the dvd. VCR works fine. Now the dvd tray won't open. I need to get the disc out, but how? I've taken the cover off. But the player won't let go of the disc.
Also, I know I need to buy a new one. Any suggestion on brand? I don't have a lot of money to spend. We use the dvd alot as we can't get cable or satelite. Just 3 local channels.
My thanks for any help & guidance given.

Hi

Hi

The only way to release the tray is to take out the complete dvd player from it's base,if you attempt to do this make sure you remove the tray facia as this would stop the unit from being dis-mantled,there maybe a couple of clips on the underside of the tray or they may not just gently lever it  upwards once you have done this you can continue to dismantle the unit observing where all the cables goes, these are normally flat flexi  ribbon cables but take great care when pulling them out and when re-inserting them back.Once the unit is in hand if you look under the tray unit you will see a cam with a small flat screwdriver begin to move the cam c/w or c/c/w untill you see the tray open up,now you can remove your DVD.

Hope this helps
