I'm just getting started on making dvds from camcorder. I have a JVC miniDv GR-D30U and a sony pc, windows xp. What do I need to transfer video from pc to dvd disc. I've loaded video on pc with no problem, but formate won't play on my dvd player. Is a converter the best way to go?

To get started in this fun hobby, you'll need to get a DVD creation suite like NERO 7 or Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 that can format and burn discs to be compatible with DVD players. Simply writing the video file from the camcorder to the disc won't work, but software packages like these will get you on the right track.
