Windows Media Player not responding - DVD

I have a Compaq Presario 1685 with XP and Media Player will not play my DVD's. When I install a DVD, it displays the name of the DVD and says "Loading Media" but nothing happens (black screen in the picture portion) and when I close it, I get "Media Player not responding".

I had MP 8.0 and just installed 10.0. I checked updating my driver (ESS 1969 PCI Audio Drive WDM) and it said no update was needed.

These same DVD's work fine in my TV's player so it is not the DVD.
