my panasonic tv picture is to dark

Hi guys I have a 32 inch panasonic tv about 2 yrs old. For the most part it has a beautiful picture, except when watching movies, or shows where the scenes are set to a dark background. Then the picture gets to dark and you cant hardly see anything. The brightness setting doesnt really do much. Is there anything that we might be able to do to help this problem
