Unit is locked up with record lights for both VCR and DVD recorder on. TV works as though nothing was going on. Neither Remote Control or controls on Unit respond. RCA manual states disconnect power source. Replug and press STANDBY/ON button with STOP button. This is supposed to reset. DOES NOTHING. Front of Unit digital display shows C5 Error.
Repair shop states they will fix for $160.00 and up. Warinity expired.
What could I have done to get this like this and what can I do as an "ELECTRONIC DUMMY" to correct it.

Be advised that this unit has both a DVD and a VHS in it. I want to save their contents.
Hi ronmccarty, Welcome to TechLore! Bummer to hear about your combo passing away. It's certainly not worth 160 dollars to repair. Why not just replace it?
