RCA P46924 Cutting On and Off By Itself

Good Afternoon All!
I have an RCA P46924 Projection TV that I need help with. A few months ago, there started a light whistling sound coming from the rear bottom of the TV intermittently. Now, the TV will turn on and off by itself and when you are watching it, the Menu Feature will come up by itself or the Channels will switch (again, by itself). If I unplug it from the Wall, wait a couple of hours, it will work ok, then the noise and the switching will start up again. I have unplugged the front control panel (thinking it might have a short), but no success. Any help would be appreciated!!!!
Thanks!
Jim

Thanks Jim II

Hello, I am having the same

Hello, I am having the same problem with my RCA SDTV 27V414T.  It shuts off and then turns back on by itself. I've called Thomspn/RCA and they said to unplug it for an hour and it should help. Well, it didn't. Unless my TV is unplugged, it will do it all day and all night. Is there any solution what so ever to this problem? If so, what is it?

JimB and Jim4422, Your

JimB and Jim4422, Your problem sounds like a power supply issue or there is something in the set loading down the supply.  The high pitched whistleing is the first clue, because thats exactly what a smps does or sounds like when its not regulating properly or somthing is loading it down.  It could be a dryed out capacitor, or the convergence ICs could be ging bad.  I have seen and audio output IC cause this problem.  Try when the set is working good to turn up the volume and see if that trikers the problem, then you would know its an audio issue or still the regulators not regulating properly.  There are no real user replaceable parts inside these sets so if you have no TV repair experience, I highly advise you seek out a trained tech to assist you in this repair.  Good Luck, and please get back with us and let us know how you made out.
