Memorex MMP8500 problems!!

My brother just got a Memorex MMP8500 Mp3/WMA player. Im trying to reformat it cause i have to change the FIRMware back to FAT16 (the instructions said to use FAT and when i turned the player on it said reformat it back to FAT16) Now when I go to the Solid State Audio Player Updater and I click Format Data Area and I hit Start it says

"Unable to send scsi command.
Scsi sense code: Device reported - media error, media not initialized."

What do I do? =/
