My Father-in-law purchased a Series2 TiVo to add to his existing DirecTV STB. He hooked it up, and it worked great for a couple weeks. But ever since then, when they try to display the guide, it gives them a service message saying, "TiVo service Interrupted". The TiVo DVR has not connected successfully to the TiVo service for more than 30 days.
But, I have personally gone through the setup and connected it to the TiVo service. If I check Phone and Network Setup, it says the connection via phone was successful, and gives no errors when I re- "connect to the TiVo service now". But as soon as I restart (at TiVo's bidding), I'm back to the same spot -- cannot connect to the service.
They have a lifetime membership, BTW.
What am I missing?

TiVo service Interrupted
This solution worked for me. First, do a guided setup over the phone. If that doesn't work, one of these solutions may:
If you were using a phone to connect, use a network (go to someone who has an ethernet connection if you don't). I am not familiar with your model TiVo (I did this fix with a Sony SVR3000 which was giving the same error). Anyway, if you're using phone, switch to network and if you're using network switch to phone. Then do a guided setup. Somehow this seems to force TiVo to overwrite any bad data in its data base with a new download.
Another solution which I did not try is here: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=314960 or use http://tinyurl.com/2p5lq2 . (skim the first page and then carefully read page 2)
Here's what someone else suggested (I didn't need to try it but it makes sense if you know how to do it or can find the instructions):
" This is also my first post. If you are experiencing the "Failed So3" error, I had the same problem. I tried lots of different things, but here is what finally worked for me. First, I rebooted the TiVo and used the *57 code (search TiVo Support for "So3" to find directions) to set the TiVo in the green screen mode. This made the error message go away. Then, before attempting to reconnect to the network, I ran guided setup again. It worked like a charm, and I was able to do this over my wired network without using a phone line.
I read somewhere that this error is caused by a corrupt database. The green screen reboot doesn't actually fix the error, but it makes the TiVo forget about it until the next connection attempt. Then, running guided setup will overwrite the bad database, fixing the problem. I don't know if this is the magic answer for everyone, but I thought I would share.
One thing is for sure, TiVo needs to stop ducking this problem and acknowledge that the vast majority of these errors are NOT caused by failing hard drives."
Good luck and if it works, please let me know.
