Ok. I give up.
I have just bought a Cowon Jetaudio iaudio U2. Using windows media player I can sync to the device with no problem if the files are kept at the same bitrate, however when I want to to convert my high bitrate files to a more manageable size on the sync window, all I get next to the file is "Converting 0%" and nothing happens.
I have plenty hard disk space, and increased the cache to over 50Gb in preferences, and still no joy. Tried reinstalling WMP10, and mp3 player - still no joy. I am using WMP10 on Win XP Sp2 on a AMD 3500, 250Gb. It must be simple, but I am stumped. Help anyone ???

Can't sync properly to mp3 player using Win Media Player 10
Do the files tranfer okay if you don't try to convert the files to a lower bitrate upon syncing?
Yup - no probs at all if I leave at original bitrate. It's got to be something to do with WMP, or a missing codec to change bitrate perhaps...
Are you changing audio formats entirely, or just the bitrate?
It doesn't give option to convert to any other format (otherwise I probably would convert to WMA).
The only options are to convert bitrate. There is an option for WMP to convert automatically, or you can specify bitrate to convert to (either way it won't work..).
There is a setting for ripping to other formats from CD, but it's nothing to do with that.
If these songs are copy-protected WMA files, like something you bought from an online music store, that could stop you from changing the bitrate.
If these songs are in MP3 format, you may be right on the missing codec thought. A good way to check is by going to Tools --> Options --> Rip Music. In the drop down box under format, if MP3 is not a choice, then that could be a good reason. Also make sure that the copy-protect music box is not checked.
I've tried on a number of files, none have copy protection. mp3 is listed as an option, and the 'copy protect' is unchecked. aaaaaaarghhh I don't know what else it might be.
Hmmm... I'm quickly running out of ideas. Have you tried an alternative player, like MusicMatch or Real Player?
