our remote control will not turn our television on or off or work the volume(or anything else). it is not the remote because we use it to work our satelite also. we also have a second remote to work the t.v. but the t.v. will not respond to it either. in order to turn the channel or the volume up and down we have to use the buttons on the television itself. can anyone please help us? the t.v. responded to both remotes as of just a few days ago but will not now.
I am having the same problem. How can I get an answer?
It's good that when you test the TVs ability to receive remote commands, test it with the remote that came with the TV as well as a properly configured universal. Using the original is recommended to ensure that something is actually wrong. Testing with only a universal introduces new variables (like is the remote in the right mode, is it programmed properly, etc.) that makes testing the TV harder, so make sure everything is set up correctly.
If indeed the TV is not responding to the remote, there are some internal issues with the TV that can cause this. It could be a bad IR sensor, a loose solder connection, etc. The best thing you can do is hard reset the TV by unplugging the set for about 4 hours, and plugging back in. If that does not work, you'll need to have the TV diagnosed by a service center.
Hi Matt: Thanks so much for your reply to my question. I will of course do exactly as you say. I have never unplugged the tv since I put it in that spot, maybe its due for a rest. Thanks again for your advise.

WOW!!! I just became a member, in hopes of finding an answer to the exact problem I just read about. I have an RCA 52" TV Mod #P52810LA The remote Sensor does not seem to respond to any commands. I have to turn it on, volume, etc. all on the front panel. I would like to know what "Chris"and "Delislea" found was the problem.
Thanks Brian
Brian, as Matt has suggested, reset the TV set first. Try by unpluging the set for several hours first. If that does not work, Like he suggested, your going to need to call in a servicer to take care of this problem. Now if you have the ability and own an oscilliscope, you can trace out the data signal to see if it is at the proper gain on the output of the IR sensor. Most peeps do not have such equipment though. Good luck in finding your problem. And please keep us all informed.
