We just bought and replaced (so this is the 2nd one) a TEAC CD-x9 Micro Hi-Fi System 8/31/2005. The first one the remote didn't work for the base. Now this one the display lights are dim on some of the time or showing the stations. Is there anything I can do from home for this (clean, replace lamp, etc)?
Yikes! Sounds like the fellows at TEAC have done the same thing everyone else is doing: They found a low bidding Chinese contractor to build their stuff. This leads to situations like yours, and the ever-lowering price of name-brand electronics. Take it back and complain, LOUDLY. As a long time servicer of consumer electronics I have been encountering situations like this ever more increasingly.
It sounds like one or more of the backlights has burned out, and though the repair is simple (solder in a new lamp), the procedure involves completely dissasembling the unit - a feat that can take up to an hour in some cases, depending on how "micro" the system is - this sometimes costs more than the wholesale price of the unit.
