Old RCA TV "autoprogramming" nightmare

Just got an old RCA TV that I cannot change the channel. It has an "Autoprogramming" mode in the set up menu but settles on Ch.91 no matter what I try. No remote, no instructions avaialable from RCA. Can I disable this or does anyone know a method to fix this?

Hi, one way of fixing this

Hi, one way of fixing this problem is by changing the eeprom; to get one you need to check the CTC #...

VEpat, I think what

VEpat,

I think what powerdiode is trying to say is that there is an internal problem with the TV that is causing this to happen. If you want your TV to autoprogram all the channels, you'll need to have it fixed by a professional if you're not technically inclined.

However,

A workaround for this would be to use an external cable box or VCR to tune in your TV channels instead of the TV. This way, you leave your TV on channel 3 (or an external input, depending on how you connect it to the TV), and change channels with your VCR or cable box. It's an easy and cheap fix, considering you probably already own a VCR.
