My RCA 2840 Shot - need to recover HD files

Long story short I need to get the files off of the HD drive in my RCA 2840 MP3 player.

I used the wrong power supply to recharge and apparently toasted the circuit board at least it smelled like it. I have not opened it yet but was wondering if the HD is removable and could be read by plugging in an adapter and power supply. I expect this to be a bit of work but would appreciate as much direction as possible.
