Please help with disk read error

I just recently purchased an APEX model AD800-A (yes I know that it was recalled as it violates a copyright law, but I have no intentions to do misdeeds with it) I purchased this particular model of dvd player because I needed a dvd player with a vga output (so that I don't need a seperate tv taking up space in my room) and at least a 5.1 surround sound system. The player reades music cds and mp3 cds fine, but when a dvd is inserted, it comes up with a no disk error. The person who sold me the dvd player told me of this problem, and suggested that it may be an alignment problem. So, my question is, does this sound like the problem, if so, how can I fix it?, and if not, what do you think the problem may be? Thanks.

Thanks for the link. Do you have a general idea of what it would cost to fix the alignment at a repair shop?
