Some players do cool music tricks

I have always enjoyed the overlap, "mix" effect that iTunes and other software players do between songs to create a better-than-cd music experience. I just found another one when playing around with my Slim Devices Squeezebox.

When you hit pause, the volume fades down as it pauses and will fade up when you play again. An easy trick really but sometimes its the little touches.

Does anyone have any other good music-related tricks they know about?

I love players that keep

I love players that keep track of recent songs, playlists or CDs that I've played for easy access. I had an older MP3 player that did this, but haven't seen one recently. Convenient feature that I use a lot on my Media Center PC.

So I have some more to add to

So I have some more to add to this thread:

  1. Why doesn't iPod itself perform the crossfade? It works so nicely in iTunes on the PC but not on the device? What gives?

  2. Another beef - I'm getting used to metadata with my music (see my TechLore article) but now I'm starting to get spoiled. I love the way an MP3 player provides duration information about the song I'm listening to so I know how much of the song is left - so why can't my XM radio do this? Or album information? Song title and artist is good, would it kill you to send along the album info too?

  3. One last thing: LYRICS!!! I know they are out there, please give me an easy way to access the lyrics for every song I rip to the hard drive and send them along through the satellite to my portable XM radio!

I'll be quiet now.
