I'll have to assume 2 things: 1. You're using the RCA RP5011 voice recorder 2. You have the AVR (automatic voice recording) feature turned on.
Once you have selected a folder and engaged the automatic voice recording feature, you'll need to set the sensitivity of the microphone by using the volume control while in the AVR mode. The higher the sensitivity value, the more likely a sound will turn on the unit. Adjust until you find the correct sensitivity for your environment.
Also, if you'll be far from the unit, you'll want to set the definition to "CONF" instead of "DICT".
