This is my first post. Hope someone has an idea or two.
My 42" LG PDP will turn itself on - randomly. I took the remote to an adjoining room - thinking it may acticate the set somehow - but when I came in today - it was on.
This has happened about 4-5 times.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any and all help.
check if set has a timer, if it has, disable it.
That was the first thing I checked. I did just go back into teh menu and found a setting to turn the TV off after no signal. I disabled that feature for a spell - as I thought it could be mis-behaving.
This did happen before and I unplugged the set for about 30 minutes to reset everything. I thought that had fixed it as it is did not happen for about a week or so, but has recently started again. I just did the unplug thing again today.
Thanks for the reply.
Unless you've got a problem with a keybutton I'd say you've got a problem with the main board.
Are there any of the new "flourescent" lights in the room? Some of these lights emit enough of the correct infrared frequency to reek havoc on remote controlled devices. If not, please post the actual model number so we can research a bit more.
Dan
There is a relatively new flourescent two bulb ceiling fixture in the kitchen, which is just to the left of the set. I am not sure what you mean by new. This is just the run of the mill two bulb fixture, AFAIK.
Thanks for all the replies, guys.
The lights I'm talking about are the incandescent replacements (they screw into standard bulb sockets.) One other possibility is that there is a control button on the set that is stuck. Try pressing all of hte control buttons on the set a few times. If one of the plastic buttons is stuck, the data line to the internal CPU could be getting confused. dan
I do have some of those lights. I will check the buttons and watch and see if the lights could have any effect.
Just for info. If anyone is watching this thread - this TV has TV Guide - an interactive menu that downloads info OTA about programming. I turned it off in the service menu day before yesterday - and so far - the set has not turned itself on. The feature, when activated - works when the TV is off or on. May be the culprit. I will post back more results later.
Thanks again.
