RCA Home Theater

I have an older[8-10 yrs] RCA home theater [35/36in.]. When I hit the power button, it tries to power up, but doesn't.Then it tries a few more times to no avail.I blew the area out with an air compresser, and it worked for a couple months. Now it's back to the same problem and the air compresser trick ain't working. Do I just junk the beast? Help!

Yes I think the beast should

Yes I think the beast should be put to rest, but this is your call my friend.  Do you really want to invest in a 10 year old TV set?  There are so many things that are comming to the end of the sets predicted life. You really got a bit more out o the set then most folks did.  There are a couple of things that are small that these sets did, or troubles they had with your symptom.  First one is a small coil maked L14401 or L401, The coilos is between the horizontal driver transformer secondart windinf and the base of the horizontal output transistor.  This little coil needs to be unsoldered, and the enamal on the ends of the coils hasd to be cleaned off the wires.  Then reinsert and see if that helps.  Sometimes the main high voltage transformer will short and cause this complaint too.  Also a shorted horizontal output transistor will cause this problem.  Good Lucki. Let us know how this turns out.
