Repair knowledge of a Magnavox TS3562 C101

The set was a recent gift, actaully I rescued it before going to the curb, which I have a habit of doing.  Since the folks tossing the thing said it had an intermittent problem of sometimes working and sometimes not (powering on) I figured maybe a loose connection.  This set is a 1995, old I know but wanted to attempt a repair.  The current symptom - plug it in, hit the power button, and the relay clicks once (and doesn't come on), hit it agian and another click (same as above).  With the ac on a variac/isolation transformer and slowly bringing up the voltage, you can hear the low voltage osilator starting to click, and a same frequency pop from the speakers.  Generally I go ahead an buy the paper for sets I work on or try to work on, but its to expensive and risky with this 16 year old set.  I have resolder 1 very loose connection and 3 other highly heated and suspect connections, all were resistors ,2 just outside the isolated supply and 2 hanging off the Flyback. Any help or ideas would be nice.

There may be a power supply

There may be a power supply repair kit for that Chassis number.  Look up the chassis number and go to MCM.com and get the 800 phone number and ask if there is a repair kit made for that set.  Alot of times there is and thats all you need to replace.  Good Luck and please let us know how you made out.

Thanks for the quick response

Thanks for the quick response, and I will check on the power supply repair kit lead that you provided.  Thanks again, and I'll let you know how things progress.

Mr. Dillon,

Mr. Dillon,

I have checked with MCM, and they had nothing, so they say, but I have had a chance to dig into the set a little more and here's what I hope is insightful information.

I have the following voltages on the AC side of the Switching PS - IC 400 (STKS6703) (pin/reading) 1/128, 2/0, 3/-.13, 4/.5, 5/1.4, 6/0, 7/.23, 8/.94, 9/7.5    IC 405 4/.3, 5/7, 6/.9 and on the other side of the opto isolator 1/10.4, 2/9.4, 3/0.  The HOT has 130volts on the collector and zero on B&E.

The HOT has a damper in it (2SC4762) E-B readings are about 150 ohms checking either direction.   without a "scizzy" I don't know how to relate this info to PS, start-up or shut down anomalies........ or anything else. I hope this is enough info to attempt a resolution, or have additional checks/recommendations, if not let me know what else you need, thanks for your time and help.
