Old RCA need to input to channel 3

Hi!  I have a very old RCA that is a floor model with a remote control.  The remote only has 6 buttons on it, there are 2 for channels, 2 for volume, 1 for mute and 1 for on/off.  I cannot get into a setup menu or other to go to channel 3.  I need channel 3 input for new digital box from a cable company.  I believe the tv was made in 1982 and is called a Color Trak.  Any ideas??

If you do not have numbers on

If you do not have numbers on the remote, you will not be able to do this with this TV set.  What you need to do is get an original replacement remote.  Without a model number we cannot assist you.  What you need to do is find the full model number, go to http://www.remotes.com and order the proper remote so you can use all the funtions of this TV set.  Good Luck, and let us know how you made out with this TV set.

Thanks for your response

Thanks for your response Larry.  Here are the model. serial, remote and maual numbers for this older style, floor modle RCA which I copied off the panel on the back of the TV.  Model: GGR697, Serial: 24347 9485, Remote: 96/121, Manual: 87/111.  The remote that I have appears to be the original.  I do not see a number on the remote but it does say that it is a ColorTrak.  Thanks for you time and investigating in this matter.

WOW this is an oldie.  Does

WOW this is an oldie.  Does not the silver part of this remote slide down?  If not there is a setup button in back of the panel on the TV set in the front.  it may be the one that says RCA or colortrack on it.  There has to be a setup or addand erase button. somewhere on the set or the remote.

Your right Larry this is an

Your right Larry this is an older TV that was built in 1982.  You can see the remote that is with the TV by going to the web site that you suggested (www.remotes.com) and entering modle number on the TV.  When you scroll to the bottom of the page your query will show a remote that is GGR697TR the exact remote that I have.  It appears to be a substitute remote.

Well what about the questions

Larry, I don't know if this

Larry, I don't know if this helps, but...  This model is the CTC120 chassis according to the RCA svc manual lookup.  The info on this model is not available electronically (CD) only on paper.  The manual was issued in 1982.

OK great!!!  turn on the TV

OK great!!!  turn on the TV set, slide the lock/select switch to select, then with the remote ,change channels with the channel up and down buttons till you get to the channel you want.  Now press the add button and slide the select/lock button to lock, and you can now go to all the channels when you press the channels up and down buttons.  I knew there was a selector somewhere on the set.  I remember repairing 1000's of these TV set.  Let us know how you make out with this.

Urreeeekkkaaaa!!!!  It worked

Urreeeekkkaaaa!!!!  It worked.  Not quite in the order that you thought.  The lock/select button was not a switch but a single button, but depressing and holding the button while I went up and down worked.  When I got to channel 3 I added the channel.  Thanks for all you help.      UndecidedHere's another challenge for your years of experience.  Since this old rca tv only has the coaxle cable hookup on the back could I still use or view dvd's or other video equipment that uses audio and video input and output terminals.  Could I do this through a VCR or would just an ordinary DVD do the conversions of the signals for me. Cry  I recently obtained a digital tv receiver which is now showing all the channels, thanks to your help but how could I possibly hook up a dvd and other equipment to go from the reciever and show on this TV?

As long as yoiu understood

As long as yoiu understood what i told you great..   Some models were a bit differant as they had a bat type switch, some had a slider switch, and some models had a push type switch.  If you do not have video inputs to your TV or the receiver you will need to use whats called an RF modulator.  Techlore has an article HERE about that.
