Minimal sound on Toshiba TV

My 8 year old 32" Toshiba TV was tied to the VCR.  This week the electricity went out for 4 hours and when it came back on, the VCR power would not come on and the volume on the TV is barely auditable at top volume - the sound is clear.  Removing the VCR connection did not change the condition of the TV.  Does anyone have a suggestion of how the TV might be repaired or is it repairable?

Unless it is an adjustment in

Unless it is an adjustment in the audio menu, I sure would not sink any money into an 8 year old TV set.  I seen a 36" TV set a few days ago in ABC warehouse for 229 bucks.   This will probably bee about half if not 3/4 of the repair cost on your toshiba TV set. Sorry, I am sure you did not want this kind of news. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out with this TV set or what you decided.

I have seen a similar problem

I have seen a similar problem before and the culprit was the audio amp chip in the TV.   I suspect that you had a power surge and that the VCR took the majority of the hit.  The audio chips in these sets are common ones and should not be more than $10-$20 for the part.  IF you post the model number, I can get you the actual part number.
