toshiba 32" pip tv

i have a 10yr old toshiba 32" pip tv which when first turned on the picture is red in color. after about 10 min  the picture goes to normal. i've tried altering the color with the menu when it is in the red mode but i get no response. any suggestions. other than this problem everything else works fine.

There is a problem with the picture tube or the RGB drives going to the picture tube.  If you know how to troubleshoot solid state electronics, get a multimeter, and the schematic for that TV set. On the rear of the picture tube is a small printed circuit board.   with the schematic, find the red drive, the green drive, and the bblue drive transistors.  with the set cold, turn on the TV set.  Compare the voltages on the base and the collector of all three.  Is one lower then the others?  If it is. Turn off the set, and pull the board carefully off the picture tube.  Now compare the voltage.  if they are all about the same, there is a problem in the picture tube most likely, but to really test a picture tube, you should use a CRT cleaner/restorer.  If the voltage are still lower then one or two of the other transistors, check all the resistors and capacitors in that circuit.  Also go back to the sweep power supply and test the b+ feed for the screen voltage.  Make sure it is up to specs.  I have seen this B+ feed low and found a bad capacitor in the power supply.  If you have no experience with TV repair, Stop and do not attempt this repair as there is alot of high voltage in these circuits I am talking about.  A TV set is not somewhere to be experimenting around inside of.  Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.

Thanks for the quick response. As i feared its out of my league. i was hoping for a simple component swap out. i can replace the tv (same size, etc) for about $400. i can do a circuit board extraction but individual capacitors are out of my league.

                    Thanks again.
