Hi everyone i would be interested to know the procedure to troubleshoot a dead tv. I plug it in turn it on with remote or tv button and it does nothing at all. This set was only just out of warranty when it quit. i have had it setting out in the shed for the last 2 years and i would like to see if i can fix it for a spare.
It is a 19 inch.
You might want to start here
Where is the best place to buy parts?
I think maybe i have a bad Thermister and posibly a bad 15W Resistor.
I might need other parts as well.
http://www.partstore.com, http://www.tritronics.com, http://www.mcmone.com to start with
Man is this ever frustrating, i can't even find a Thyristor at any of those places.
One place i went and put in Thyristor in the search box and they came up with a solder station for $99.00 as the answer to my search.Woowwwww
Is the thyristor shorted across the leads. Did you check the bridge rectifiers?
No the thyristor checks high in one direction and low in the other.
Does the thyristor have polarity?
Did not check bridge rectifiers yet. Not sure where they are or what they look like.
None of the site's for parts that i went to seem to have parts for this mod. tv, i put in the mod. no. and do a search and they come up with nothing nada.
GE Mod. 20GT320 color tv
If you found a chassis number on the back lable, It would be a little easyer to help you maybe. Shouls start with a CTC. But I am a bit worried my friend. If you do not know what a recifier is you really should not be poking around inside this TV set. There is too much high Voltage inside this puppy to be experiementing around inside of this TV set. It is good you want to fix it but without proper training, you could get hurt.
Well Larry, thats why i am on this forum for a little refresher course on stuff that i have forgot. I started servicing TV's in 1957 and never got into the solid state stuff. Allthough i am rusty on my ohms law and which direction a diode conducts i have been in a few TV's so don't worry about me i have lived quite a long life.
LOL ok. Here is a great site to read up on an learn from.
