I am experiencing a problem with a samsung 1080i dlp model#hl-s5087w. A dark diagonal band about two inches wide has developed and runs from the top of my screen to the bottom at an angle of less than 10 degress about 2/3's off center to the right. The band is not completely opaque but it seems to be getting darker and wider. Anyone heard of this or know what the problem might be? Thanks
Sounds like a light engine, color wheel or main PC board assy is bad and or going bad. It could also be a bad connection on or in the light engine assy that houses the DLP image device. If this set if out of warranty, Im sorry to inform you will not be a inexpensive repair. Go here to see the parts list. Most of all of these types of repairs sould be done only by a trained servicer. There are no real user replaceable parts inside these sets. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out with this set.
Probably a mirror inside the engine has come undone. Not a replaceable or repairable item. The engine must be replaced.
Had a new light engine replaced a couple of weeks ago on this tv. This mudule contains all the moving parts of the tv and is basically the heart of the machine. Having one of these replaced is like getting a new tv(I was told). The service guy took the old one out and replaced it with a factory fresh vacuum packed module in about half an hour. The guy said those engines are about $700. I believe the factory warranty covered the cost, but I have an extended warranty for 5yrs anyway... the repair didn't cost me a penny. Now I'm back in business. Picture is just like new!! No reason was given as to why the engine failed but the guy said there was no history of this particular model having many problems. As to the light engines, I was told they could fail early or last for years just depending on ....... luck?...
