The IR sensor is probably bad, or there is a 5 volt regulator that supplys the voltage to the IR sensor in the standby power supply that I have seen cause this problem. If you have no training in repairing TV set, I would advise you to call in a pro, as the IR sensor is all the way in front of the TV set, and you will need to pull out the entire chassis to repair this problem if that is the fault.
