I have a citizen vcr/dvd player, a couple of years old, and the remote no longer works. Is there any way to access the unit's functions without the remote? Specifically, I'm running my gamecube through the line1 input, but can't change the input on the machine now. I've looked, but have had no luck finding a distributor to replace or fix the remote. Same dead end trying various universal remotes. Hoping I don't have to buy another vcr/dvd just because the remote is broken!
Open to any suggestions. Thanks.
If I had a model number, maybe I can assist you in finding a remote that will work the functions on this unit.
Thanks. The number is C503DV. I appreciate any insight you might have.
I tried everybody i know of for remote controls and all of them say they have no info on a citizen's VRR/DVD player combo. Is there any other name like integra ior any other numbers that maybe you left out? if the answer is no, you will have to look into the owners manual at where to contact in case you need service, or go back where you purchaced the unit and ask them, sorry. good Luck, and please let us know if you found any answeres.
The unit should have an FCC ID on it somewhere. This should trace to the actual manufacturer of the unit. Each manufacturer must register their unit with the FCC for readio frequency interference limits. This testing is done for each new model before it is released. The FCC ID is one way to trace the manufacturer based upon the electronics within the box. Many of hte "cheap" units are made by the better known manufacturers with specific labeling for the target market. Once you get the manufacturer via the FCC ID, try a universal for that name brand. It may work.
Hey, you guys are great. Thanks alot. I've since found out that Citizen isn't the name of a manufacturer, but, as dan said, simply a label targeting a particular market (namely people like me who buy a component on sale at Great Canadian Warehouse, which mainly deals with groceries!). I've got the info in the owner's manual, and will have to see about a replacement remote. There's a lesson here, I just know it ... Maybe I've even learned it because I just bought a new combo unit from a well established retailer, a Sony. Thanks again!
I cannot get the INPUT function on my remote for an RCA 19 inch tv, model # 19421 to work. I can't get the TV to get out of the VIDEO mode.
I called RCA but they were no help as they said it was an older model (2003 is old?).
Any suggestions? Will a universal remote with an input function work?
Ebay does show "new" remote controls for this tv model?
Thanks for any help or ideas.
I would first unplug the TV set for at least a few hours first. Also make sure the remote control is working. You can do that if you have a camera phone or a digital camera or a camcorder. Just while you press down and hold on the input function on the remote control take a picture of the front part of the remote. If it is good, you will see the little led light right in the front. You canmnot see the light with your eyes because it is an infared light. Good Luck and let us know how you made out.
I also tried this site for exact replacement remotes and repairs. I believe you can post questions as well. Worth a try if all else fails?

Larry, thanks. Remote is working. It just won't switch out of VIDEO mode.
Even bought a new universal remote. Coded it to the tv without a problem. Same thing-the blue light sort of flickers when you hit the input button but WONT go out of video mode.
Guess what? It was a faulty cable connection! Had "Larry the Cable Guy" pay me a visit (the Comcast Cable Guy actually) and it was a cable problem all along!!
After years of universal remotes not being universal, I just bought the Logitech remote. Once home the setup was a breeze doing it online. Now I have a remote that works every thing in my house, even my garage door and ceiling fans.. The Logitech might cost abit more but it was well worth the cost.
Hi Wirenuting,
What Logitech remote did you buy? Any chance you'd like to write a review on it for the TechLore Community?
I have a Logitech Harmony 520 remote. I bought it about 6 months ago.
I'll try to write something up on it for you.
