I have a 50" Phillips Magnavox Rear Screen Projection TV. When it's cold, and we turn it on for the first time, the image starts small in the center and quickly grows to full screen. Sometimes it flickers several times between sizes.
I've read this was fixed with either a $400 power supply, or OPTO COUPLER 7412 PART #483520988561 THAT COST $6.49.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gio, the opto coupler is part of the power supply you have listed and controls the regulation circuit do its job. I have seen this part cause a set to warm up slow or even make a set shut down after it has warmed up. I have only had to replace just this part once by itself. I have always had leaky diodes, bad transistor's, Zener's, and or capacitors make this go bad or has gone bad becuse of overvoltage condidtions. This is part of a SMPS(switch mode power supply). Yes a trained tech can most likley troubleshoot and repair SMPS as he may have a service manual abd the proper equipment to fix them. You don't simply replace parts that you see bad. If you have had no solid state repair experience, I would suggest you replace the board and take your chances with the board being the only trouble in the set or may lose the price of the board as something else in the TV set could be causeing the board to fail, and I have seen that many times. If you have no repair experience and you do not want to gamble, I would highly recommend that you seek out a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck, and please let us know how you made out with this set.
Thanks for your help Larry. My gola was to understand more before I talk to a pro. I wasn't planning on doing the work my self. :) I want to gauge the fix / or buy a new one decision.
yea like I said on a complint such as this, it really depends on what the servicer finds and what is needed in time.
