I have a JVC model #AV-48WP74 rear projection TV that has a blue shadow on all images. It appears the convergence is out? The blue convergence grid is a mess and will not reset, nor can I adjust manually. Any idea wht the cause my be? The TV is only 2 1/2 yrs. old. Thanks
You are going to need to have the convergence IC's replaced, and most likly an alighnment. This is going to involve unsoldering the parts and reinstalling the STK convergence IC's. If you know how to solder and want to work on this set yourself, You can order the convergence ICs HERE.. The Part number is STK 392-110. Good luck, and you really should get the service manual from Here. For about 15 bucks. Please let us know how you made out or if you decided to get someone to repair the set for you.
Thanks for Your reply, for some reason I did not receive it right away????? But you are right I figured this out through this and other web sites. I have replaced both IC's with 392-150's, I then did an automatic super focus, seems good as new. Are those cooling fins or heat sinks supposed to be that hot....wow. I did use heat sink compound.
THANKS, MIKE
Yes they are suppose to get super hot. I have in the past even installed small muffen fans inside the sets, blowing right on the heat sinks. If you used inexspensive subs or generic replacements, the ICs will go out in a bout three or so months. You mUST replace them with the ORIGINAL replacements. Beleive me please as I went through all this many times! Well Okie dokie, Im really glad you were able to fix your set. Dont be shy and have a looksee around the site, as we have lots of cool stuff to see and read. Good Luck
Did you make any other changes/modifications when you replaced the 392-110's with the 150's? I read a Sony service memo that also called for a resistor change. Is all still working fine? Thanks for any feedback.
Mike Lee
No I never made any changes, just simply changed the IC to the 150. They did run cooler as a matter of fact. Also make sure you have plenty of NEW heatsink compound on the IC and the heat sink before reinstalling the IC's
I wanted to pass along my many thanks to this forum and others of the fantastic www. I was able to successfully repair my blue convergence problem with my JVC AV65WP74HA. I bought a service manual 15.99, two 392-150's 21.95 including shipping and a 1.5 ohm 1 watt resistor for about 47 cents. The research I probably spent two hours give or take 4 and about 2 hours of labor for the actual repair. Post repair was able to successfully Super Focus but didn't take after a power down until I went in and manually aligned the blue channel convergence. Less than 50 bucks at Christmas time is nice!!
No problem Mike, and thank you for sharing this with all of the readers.
Hi guys,
I was reading up on this situation as I too am having trouble with the same tv, only my problem is with the red convergence. Unfortunatly my problem has worsened. My uncle (who used to work on tv's) changed out the stk's with the 150's. That didn't do the trick so then he changed out the 2.2 ohm resistor. After doing that it seemed to be a little better as we could atleast move the red around. However we still couldn't get it to line up. Then he started to mess with the conver. A and conver. B numbers (I had found and purchased the service manual so we knew how to get into this area). I told him that we needed to do it step by step and he insisted that we didn't. Well POOF now I have nothing...no sound no picture at all and at first the tv wouldn't even turn off. We unplugged it for awhile and plugged it back in and I could turn it off and on but still no picture or sound. There is a ticking noise at the back of the set but I have no idea what it is or what to do now. Any help would sure be appreciated.
Thanks much
Sandy
I have this tv also; however my problem is that it is getting a green tint and the blues are off.How do I adjust this?

You may have contaminated coolant in the cathode ray tubes, hard to tell without seeing it, can you post a picture on here?
I am uable to get to the tv at this yime, how is that coolant refreshed?
