Sony Trinitron - discolouration

I have a 5 year old 27" Sony Trinitron and it has 2 halfmoon discolouration on both sides of the screen.  One is blue and the other is green, however the colour does of these 6-8" halfmoons change if the background changes.  Could it be a the picture tube or something else?  And how much would it cost?

Thanks for your help.

just a guess,! do you have

just a guess,! do you have big home speaker's beside it? If so move them, or have you had any in the past? sound's like it need's degussed../ demagnatized.

efenfish, Not sure if you

efenfish, Not sure if you know this but if you move the speakers you must wait about 15 minutes or so before you turn the TV back on otherwise it won't deguss it. Usually it's 15 minutes but I would wait 20 just to be safe. It may take a couple times depending on how bad it is.

i recommend the st be

i recommend the st be unplugged for a few hours as to cool down the thermister or deguassing circuit.

I've seen a couple set's that

I've seen a couple set's that I had to actually use a tape-head demagnetizer on / all around the metal frame / chassis, the degaussing coil couldn't do the job, on this much magnetism

Your right, but a deguassing

Your right, but a deguassing coil is cheap and that always works good.
