The picture on the screen is being pulled towards the middle. The top bows down in the center about 6 inches, and the bottom bows towards the top by 6 inches. The picture is also getting VERY blurry. The nearest center is 80 miles away from me, so before i drive it all the way down there i was wondering if there was anyway to fix this problem myself. By the way, i know almost nothing about how to repair tv's. Thank you in advance!
Jon
In doing some research about this problem, others are calling it the "hourglass effect" only mine would be a sideways hourglass.
Your problem could be a convergence problem, and that would entail know how of soldering and unsoldering, as well as troubleshooting solid state electronics and working on printed circuit boards and replaceing two convergence IC's that are soldered into place. Also it could be a pincussion problem, in the horizontal drive circuit. A solid state TV set has no user replaceable parts inside them and an untrained person should not be experimenting inside a TV set because of the high voltage dangers. Your really going to need to have the set checked out by a pro. Unless you take a crash course in electronics and then TV repair, it not a job for you to do. Please let us know what you did to fix the set and Good Luck
My Mitsubishi WS 55-807 has developed a start up problem. When turned on, the 3 colored beams do not focus. hitting the side of the TV cabinet makes it focus but then fall out of focus again immediately. Once warmed up (5 minutes) we hit the cabinet once and it focuses and remains until we shut it off. I have been told there is a crack in the convergence board (over the phone...no actual diagnose). I am confident in my soldering and replacement ability. How do I tell the right board from the others? If the board requires replacement, where can I get one (the locals here are boaderline thiefs)? Is there any remanufactured parts?
The Convergence IC's could just need to be resoldered. Be very carefull and double check each pin as you solder them and recheck after your done, as a small solder bridge can make a power supply smoke in these sets. If that does not help, and the set does the same thing, there is a mechanical connction inside the IC's and then the IC's must be replaced. good luck, and please let us know how you made out.
How do I tell the IC Board from the others? I have not looked yet, so maybe there is only one. Thanks for the assist. I will keep you updated. Dave
There are two large Black stand up ICs on a metal heat sink, they start with STK
Hi Larry....I have the back off, but unable to locate the boards. I have 2 photos to send you showing the interior components. Can I send them to you? Dave. [email protected]
