tv sensor light for on/off and volume

we have a toshiba tv, 35 in. maybe 6 years old. anyway, we also have satellite tv. the on/off and volume controls do not work on the sat. remote although we def know it is not the remote. is is possible that the sensor of the tv. little red light onthe tv. is no long able to pick up on the remote? My husband says he never heard of such a thing, but , the fact is that the remote works when it is nin sat. mode which is to aonly change channesl. you need to be in tv mode when you turn on/off and volume and that is when we have problems. any suggestions.

Have you tried the original

Have you tried the original remote yet on the TV set, and does it work?  If you think it is the remote control and you have Dishnetwork or Direct TV, it certainly could just be a remote problem.. Let me say to you, First try to unplug the TV from the wall, and do not simply turn it off, Unplug from the wall for 24 hours.  Next, does the satillite remote work anything, like the Sat. receiver, ect?  If it does, take out the batteries from the Sat. remote for 12 to 24 hours.  Find or look up online the reprograming funtion for the manual searce for the remote, to control your TV set.  If you give me more info. on the type of Sat. system and the TV set, I will post you a link to follow.  I have found that if it's not an RCA system, you should be able to reprogram the remote and or other parts of your system to the SAT. remote.  If it is an RCA system , OPPS, get a new System, as they constantly loose, for some reason the programming on the remotes, the SAT. companies and RCA is aware of the problem, but do not care.  Good Luck, and let us all know how you made out with this problem.

hey thanks larry, well, we did try the remote to the tv and that does not work either so it leads me to believe that something is wrong with the tv. but i will try unplugging the tv and see what happens, i do apprecfiate your help. You know we get spoiled with remotes and when they do wrok properly it really is annoying even if it is only to turn the tv on/off or the volume. thanks again. happy holidays
