the tv powers on,,but i have a blank screen with horizontal white line in the middle of the screen,,, toshiba 27 in fst tv monitor tv is 15 years old still was a decent tv. please give me a idea whats wrong?
moejoe, It could be the vertical output IC, or a bad capacitor in the vertical sweep circuit, or even the sweep power supply that feeds the vertical circuit. If you have no solid state repair experience, play it safe and get a tech to assist you with this repair. This is not a place to be experiementing around inside of. It is an old set, and they do need to be replaced at some point though. If you drop 75 bucks into this set to get it fixed, not so far into the future you will have another problem, and like alot of peeps do, they blame the last person who worked on the set. I'm not saying you will do this, but my point is there is a time to forget about repair, as it will only get more expensive. yes it might be playing good for a while but any repair does not cover the entire set under the repair warranyt, only what was done. The set is 15 years old and it seems you got your moneys worth. Good luck, and let us know what you decided. Maybe this will help you decide.http://www.techlore.com/article/10602...
My own experience with Toshiba TVs is that the problem is usually the Vertical IC going bad. Check the caps in the vertical circuit as well. Once replaced, the set should work for a while. Sometimes the vertical IC jsut gets tired or more likely, the connections for the IC get bad causing the IC to fail.
I get the same thing sparadocially, when it does happen, i give it a light hit on the side of the set. Does this mean something is loose that causes this? It comes and goes, but when hit it is fixed for a few days...
